A murder is a murder and it does not matter how many times someone has been stabbed, the AAP government said in response to the post-mortem report that stated that 19-year-old woman in Anand Parbat was stabbed eight times and not 32 as claimed by the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in an advertisement.

The Delhi government, which launched an all-out campaign against Delhi police on TV and radio, said more such advertisements may be released if the police continued to “fail in performing their duties”.

An official said the issue was not how many times she was stabbed but how police failed to prevent her murder.

“It is funny that the police are not talking about their failure and not telling us why they failed to prevent the murder. She was stabbed, a fact which Delhi police cannot deny. Now, even if she was stabbed eight times, it is still a brutal murder. Instead of finding mistakes in the ad, the police should focus on women security,” said a Delhi government official, requesting anonymity.

In the advertisement released on TV and radio, Kejriwal claimed the woman was stabbed 32 times but the autopsy report said the woman was stabbed eight times.

The police said the government was trying to mislead the people and that CM Kejriwal should correct the error.

The government had released two ads, one urging the public to come forward to help victims in such cases and one appealing to the PM to devote some time for Delhi police.

Government sources said that they hadn’t received any communication from the police, requesting to withdraw the ad.

“The ad was released for a week and if needed we will continue with it. However, if Delhi police has any objection, they must write to the chief secretary so that he can put up a file to the CM. It is up to the CM whether he wants to drop the ad, continue with it or modify it,” the official added.
