A police officer at the Sector 20 police station told HT, “The CBI letter makes no mention of the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case but seems related to some investigation in the case.”

So far, the CBI had maintained that the murders were carried out by two domestic helps and a medical assistant.

A CBI investigator, who is not authorised to speak to the media, confirmed, “The first information report (FIR) in the case was filed at and probed by the Sector 20 police station. We have asked them to provide details on hired killers, their modus operandi, photographs and fingerprints.”

Sources said the fingerprints would be matched with those picked up from the scene of crime. The fingerprints gathered from the site had not matched those of the three accused whom CBI arrested last year.

CBI’s search for contract killers in effect means it could be ruling out the role of the accused trio — Raj Kumar, Krishna Nepali and Vijay Mandal.
