Bhargava sends recommendations on school education to PM
Educationist PM Bhargava has submitted a slew of recommendations to the PM on key areas like school education and traditional knowledge.
After he was dropped as Vice Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission (NKC), educationist PM Bhargava has submitted a slew of recommendations to the Prime Minister on key areas like school education and traditional knowledge.
"The Commission had asked me to prepare a set of recommendations on promoting traditional knowledge, strengthening school education, agriculture and knowledge flow to rural sector. The recommendations were prepared and some of them were approved by the Commission also," Bhargava told PTI.
He said the recommendations were yet to be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by the Commission but he submitted them himself.
"I submitted them myself to the Prime Minister last week," he said.
He had prepared a draft Right to Education Bill that envisaged right to free and compulsory education up to high school in the age group of six to 16 years. The bill also recommended setting up of a common school system and de-commercialisation of school education.
His suggestions on traditional knowledge identified five areas, including age-old medical and health care system and traditional agricultural practices, as areas for active pursuit.
He recommended that a legal framework be created for establishing proprietary rights for traditional knowledge holders.
