BJP not satisfied with Rathore's sentence

BJP today said it was not satisfied with the one-and-a-half year jail term handed down to SPS Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case and demanded that the Haryana government appeal in a higher court to get the tainted former state DGP a stronger punishment.

"The punishment given to Rathore is not adequate. He had harassed the innocent girl and misused his powers to torture her family and deserves a stronger punishment," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Rathore was sentenced by a Chandigarh sessions court today to one and a half years in prison for molesting Ruchika 20 years ago. The 14-year-old girl had committed suicide three years after the incident.
