CBI interrogates Maj Gen, wife

Major General Anand Kumar Kapoor and his wife, Mridula, were questioned at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarters at the CGO Complex on Thursday.
The CBI had booked the two in a disproportionate assets case and carried out searches at 12 places on Wednesday. Kapoor, an Ordnance Corps Officer, is currently posted in the South Western Command at Jaipur.
“The two had been summoned to the CBI headquarters and were also taken for opening their bank lockers,” a senior official said.
Officials did not rule out the possibility of Kapoor’s arrest if he did not cooperate with the investigating agency. Kapoor could not be reached for comments despite several attempts.
Kapoor, who was awarded the Vashist Seva Medal (VSM), was posted in New Delhi till January. Three bank lockers belonging to Kapoor were opened on Thursday and jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh recovered.
The agency had recovered jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh from Kapoor’s house during searches on Wednesday. Four bank lockers are still to be opened.
Kapoor, sources said, comes from a very humble background. His father was an advocate in Panipat. He divorced his first wife in 1984.
