The crackdown by police against law-flauting Blueline buses in the capital continued for the second day on Wednesday, triggering a shortage of buses and causing hardship to commuters.
Facing police crackdown, many of the Blueline operators chose to keep their vehicles off the roads resulting in overcrowding of DTC buses and leading to two freak accidents in west and north Delhi in the morning rush hours.
A unidentified teenager was wounded after falling off an overcrowded bus in Hari Nagar locality of west Delhi while an elderly person was seriously injured in a similar accident near Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in north Delhi.
52-year-old RK Pandey, a teacher, has been admitted to a private hospital in the locality with injuries on his head. The driver of the blueline bus fled the scene after the mishap and a hunt is on to nab him, police said.
Police teams armed with a Delhi government directive fanned across the capital in the morning and booked blueline buses for various offences, including violation of permit rules, overspeeding and rash and negligent driving.
Police had fined 604 private bus drivers and impounded 126 blueline buses as part of the crackdown on Tuesday.
Bluelines buses have been involved in as many as 189 accidents so far this year, killing 61 people and injuring 144 others. There have been over 3,000 cases of rash and neglient driving and around 750 incidents of permit violation.
