If you are an outstation student, getting admissions in one of the best colleges of south Campus is winning just half the battle. The next step is to start hunting for accommodation.
The facilities
All the PGs provide the regular affair of one single bed, a mattress, a study table and an almirah. Most of the rooms have an attached bathroom. Other than that it all depends on the rent you pay and the generosity of the landlord. There can also be things like a television or Internet facility available but such places can be hard to find in these areas. The rent also includes three meals a day. The food is mostly the regular affair of roti, dal, vegetables and rice. Most do not provide non-vegetarian food or provide it occasionally.
The restrictions
In girls hostels and PGs the curfew hours can be anywhere from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Night outs are not allowed except when guardians send them prior request. Jai Shankar Singh, owner of an accommodation facility, said, “We do not generally allow night outs. The girls have to come back at a fixed time. We are very strict about this.”
Boys don’t have all the fun
It is a lot easier for girls to find PG accommodations in the city. The guys do not have such luck. The best option for them is to rent an apartment, which is available in the range of Rs 3,000-Rs10, 000. “We advise them to rent a room which can cost almost the same as PGs. There are not many PGs because the owners feel keeping boys is a hassle,” said a property dealer in Lajpat Nagar.
