A suspended policeman, accused along with six others of extorting over Rs 19 lakh from a close aide of kidney racket kingpin Dr Amit Kumar, was granted interim bail by a Delhi court to allow him to attend his nephew’s marriage ceremony.
A suspended policeman, accused along with six others of extorting over Rs 19 lakh from a close aide of kidney racket kingpin Dr Amit Kumar, was on Tuesday granted interim bail by a Delhi court to allow him to attend his nephew’s marriage ceremony.
“The interim bail is granted to accused Devender Kumar Malik on his furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount to the satisfaction of the court concerned,” Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria said.
The court, however, asked the accused to surrender in court on March one.
The bail plea was opposed by the public prosecutor saying “it is a serious case and regular bail applications of other co-accused were pending in the Delhi High Court.”
The accused has sought interim bail on the ground that he has to participate in the marriage of his sister’s son at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on February 26.
Seven policemen including Malik had allegedly extorted Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upendra, an accused in the Gurgaon kidney racket, for letting him and his driver to go scot free after being picked up in January last year.
The policemen are booked under various sections of the IPC including 384 (extortion), 385 (putting persons in fear for extorting money), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 120B criminal conspiracy).
