A video footage, made reportedly by a passerby, of a criminal killed in a police encounter in Sector 82 on Thursday, may spell “discomfort” for the Noida police.
The footage, aired by a TV channel on Monday, purportedly shows that the criminal, Ashok Yadav, shot by the police, was “left crying for help” despite the presence of policemen and onlookers.
The channel claimed no one took the injured man, wanted by police in Noida and Delhi in 25 cases, to hospital and he was “allowed to bleed to death.”
The channel also claimed a constable kept asking the criminal’s name and address, while “the latter bled to death.”
Though no official came on record to react to the footage, a senior police official associated with the encounter said, “Airing such footage is an irresponsible way of trying to run down the police force. A policeman was also shot at in the encounter. The video is hardly of a few seconds and is inconclusive.”
“It’s true the criminal is lying on the street with some cops around him. We cannot ensure a criminal, who is shooting at policemen, gets medical aid as soon as he is hit. He was a notorious criminal. What the footage does not show is that other cops rushed both the injured to hospital,” said another official.
