Decomposed body found at GK-II home
The decomposed body of a 44-year-old man was found in his house in GK-11 on Friday, reports Vijaita Singh.
The decomposed body of a 44-year-old man was found in his house in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash-II on Friday. Neighbours said the man was a recluse and may have died of starvation.
The neighbours called the police on Friday, two weeks after the man — identified as Maninder Singh Bhander — was last seen. Police broke open the door of the two-storey house and found his body near the main entrance. “He never used to interact with anyone in the area. He kept to himself. He used to live in this house all alone. We did not know his name, until the police took out some bank documents from the house. He may have died of hunger. He was mentally unstable,” said O.P. Dewan, a neighbour.
If Bhander indeed died of starvation, his would be the second such case in two months. Two sisters were found living with the dead body of the third sister, who died of starvation, in a house in Kalkaji in August.
“Yesterday, a foul smell was coming from the house but we ignored it. Today we were shocked to see him dead,” said his next-door neighbour K.K. Mishra.
Police said Bhander lived alone and he was unmarried. He had no regular income. His mother, a school principal, died four years ago and his father died about 20 years ago. He had a sister who is an actor. “Prima facie, it seems that he may have died out of hunger. There were no injury marks, the body was highly decomposed, but we are not ruling out other angles,” said a police officer.
