“Delhi should be answerable to someone. The Prime Minister should start giving 2-3 hours each week to examine the law and order situation of Delhi. We have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter. The Delhi home minister has sought a report from the Delhi police commissioner in 48 hours,” Kejriwal told reporters while coming out of the victim’s house.

Indirectly hinting at his government’s demand for full statehood to Delhi, Kejriwal condemning the attack said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should work to improve the law and order condition in Delhi or else the Delhi Police should be handed over to the Delhi government.

“Delhi Police comes under the Prime Minister. Either they should devote time to improve the law and order situation in Delhi or they should hand over Delhi Police to the state government and we will improve it,” Kejriwal told reporters.

He further alleged that the law and order situation has deteriorated in the city and the police need to be answerable to the elected government. “Who is controlling Delhi Police today and is it under Delhi assembly? It is not. They have become a law for themselves… it is not a happy situation,” he said. Women and child welfare minister Sandeep Kumar and Delhi Commission for Women chief who will take charge on Monday, Swati Jaihind also visited the family.

The Delhi BJP, however, criticised the AAP government for diverting attention from real issues. “They are making false accusations to shield their failures. AAP has raised VAT rates in Delhi and are spending money in Delhi to benefit their leaders. Development in Delhi has come to a complete halt and they are now accusing the Centre for that,” said Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP chief.
