The digital museum, first of its kind in a historic monument, will be ready before the Commonwealth Games, Leena Nandan, Joint Secretary, Tourism Ministry told PTI.

"Important events during India's independence struggle between 1857 and 1947 will be featured in an interactive multimedia format," Nandan said, adding there would also be many innovative artefacts at the museum.

Red Fort, which has been declared as World Heritage Site, already hosts sound and light shows.

Envisioned as a virtual museum, it will utilise latest advances in interactive multimedia, interactive devices to create a memorial and learning environment for people to access the historical events and interpretations of the Indian freedom struggle, she said.

Interactive devices, for example, the e-charkha, which when spun, play back projections on the meaning of Swadeshi and Sarvodaya.

"The digital museum will be an added attraction to draw visitors. It will provide people with an opportunity to learn through touching and feeling with narratives of the freedom struggle and its heroes, Nandan said.
