Out of the 2,300 low-floor buses to be purchased, 2,000 will be CNG-powered while the rest will be diesel ones. The new fleet will also include 85 air-conditioned buses, the official added.

The Corporation is planning to introduce automatic ticketing machines in all the new buses, to be purchased from private companies on a built-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.

Besides, the companies will be allowed to advertise on tickets.

The corporation is also planning to instal Global Positioning System (GPS) in all its buses, including the existing ones, to help monitor the movement of these vehicles, the official added.

The DTC's plans to purchase the new buses comes amid a crackdown on blueline buses in the wake of a spate of accidents involving these private-run buses, dubbed as 'killer buses' by the denizens.
