DTC plans to purchase 2,300 new buses by September
With the notorious Blueline buses planned to be phased out from the capital, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to purchase 2,300 CNG and diesel-run buses to augment its fleet.
With the notorious Blueline buses planned to be phased out from the capital, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) on Thursday decided to purchase 2,300 CNG and diesel-run buses to augment its fleet.
The DTC board will soon send a proposal in this regard to the Delhi government for the necessary financial clearance for the mega purchase. The new buses are expected to hit the roads by September, a senior DTC official told PTI.
Out of the 2,300 low-floor buses to be purchased, 2,000 will be CNG-powered while the rest will be diesel ones. The new fleet will also include 85 air-conditioned buses, the official added.
The Corporation is planning to introduce automatic ticketing machines in all the new buses, to be purchased from private companies on a built-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.
Besides, the companies will be allowed to advertise on tickets.
The corporation is also planning to instal Global Positioning System (GPS) in all its buses, including the existing ones, to help monitor the movement of these vehicles, the official added.
The DTC's plans to purchase the new buses comes amid a crackdown on blueline buses in the wake of a spate of accidents involving these private-run buses, dubbed as 'killer buses' by the denizens.
