Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport will have an entertainment centre to make delays bearable. Atul Mathur reports.
What do you do if your flight’s delayed at the Delhi Airport?
Yawn? Snooze?
Not for long. The upcoming Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport promises a large measure of entertainment to waiting passengers.
There will be blockbuster movies for you, the latest online games for your children and lots more.
One of the biggest attractions at the new terminal would be a large screen showing films and entertainment programmes round the clock.
While the size and number of screens to be set up is yet to be decided, officials of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the agency developing the airport, said different agencies might operate the screens.
The entertainment centre, said DIAL officials, would also include a dedicated area for children.
The new domestic terminal 1D at Delhi airport already has a ‘Disney corner’. This play area has slides, soft toys, blocks and gaming options to keep children busy. ‘Kids Zone’ at T3 is expected to have even more.
“As of now, we have just awarded contracts to set up a duty-free shop and food and beverage outlets. We will soon call tenders for setting up entertainment facilities at T3 too,” said a DIAL official.
Apart from entertainment facilities, there would be a wide range of eateries. DIAL has recently awarded the concessions for setting up F&B outlets to known brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, Costa Coffee, Copper Chimney, Flavours, Café Ritazza and The Food Village.
“In addition, there would be a host of sit-down, take-away and fine dining options along with well stocked bars. T3 will not just be an airport terminal but a destination in itself,” said a DIAL official.
Other than the airport duty free retail shop, which would be set up by Aer Rianta International there would be a chain of stores selling apparel, cosmetics, perfumes, jewellery, watches, accessories, tobacco, and liquor.
