Two brothers, identified as Rajesh Kumar and Ajay Kumar, involved in the sale and supply of fake cosmetics were arrested, said a senior police officer. This is the third case of its kind in recent times.
Sindhu Pillai, DCP (north), said the raids were conducted following a complaint filed by a senior employee of Always Detective Services (ADS); a Kolkata based detective company that searches spurious products, being supplied and sold in different markets, on behalf of the original manufacturers.
"We received a complaint from one Yogesh Kumar, who is authorised to give complaints on copyright act on behalf of a leading cosmetics manufacturing company, regarding supply and sale of fake cosmetics from two shops in Sadar Bazar. The claims were verified and raids were conducted," said Pillai.
Rajesh Bharti, managing director of ADS said they had received information about the illegal trade of various products of their agent companies from some shops in Sadar Bazar.
According to Bharti, they seized 37,177 pieces of Fair & Lovely creams, 1958 pieces of cosmetic items of Lakme , 1740 pieces of Ponds talcum powder, 1296 pieces of Nycil talcum powder, besides some other brands.
