Father ordered Bunty out of the house
Tired of visits by policemen whenever a crime was committed in Sangam Vihar, his father stuck a notice outside his house saying he had no links with his son, reports Vijaita Singh.
Om Prakash alias Bunty, the main accused behind a spate of serial shootings in south Delhi recently, was disowned by his family early this year, police said, adding the gang he commands possesses sophisticated weapons, which is a cause for concern.
His father, who works as a peon, ordered him out of the family’s house. He went a step further, pasting a notice at the gates of his house saying he had “no relation with Om Prakash alias Bunty”. The family lives in E Block, Sangam Vihar.
This was soon after Bunty came out of jail in February 2008.
“Tired of visits by policemen whenever a crime was committed in the area, his father stuck a notice outside his house saying he had no links with his son,” said a police officer probing the shooting incidents. He has six siblings, all of who live in Delhi.
Sources said that he was once a “police informer”.
On Wednesday the Commissioner of Police declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on each of the five accused wanted in the serial shootings in south Delhi in the last one week.
His other associates believed involved in the shootings are Rajesh Sharma, Nasir, Mohammad Israel and Shiv Om. Of these, Rajesh and Nasir were arrested in September 2007 along with Bunty on robbery charges. “He is an alcoholic and his first crime was pick-pocketing way back in 1999. He is the one who trained the other accused wanted in all these cases,” said the officer.
Police said that Bunty graduated from carrying countrymade weapons to sophisticated ones. “We have information that they have Chinese- as well as US-made weapons. After coming out of jail within five months he regrouped. His arrest is important in the wake of Assembly elections,” said the officer.
