The authorities also took preventive steps to ensure that no untoward incidents take place.
The police sounded a general alert in the city in view of the present situation in Punjab.
Some buses going to Punjab were cancelled during the day, but officials said services would be resumed at night, as situation was “manageable”.
“There is nothing to worry about,” said a senior police officer, not authorised to speak to the media. “We are taking precautionary measures.”
Punjab Police stopped the Delhi-Lahore bus at Ludhiana as a precautionary measure. Ambedkar Terminus near Delhi Gate wore a deserted look in the evening at around 6 p.m. — the arrival time of the bus from across the border. “The bus was delayed by over five hours,” said a Delhi Transport Corporation official.
Railways said they have alerted the RPF and Delhi Police.
Officials said helplines were started at Jalandher, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Firozpur, Pathankot and Jammu Tawi to give out information on trains.
