One of the assailants reportedly gagged and pushed Sudha to the ground, hit her in the abdomen repeatedly and then raped her. meanwhile, his accomplice held on to the other two girls, who eventually managed to escape and inform the school authorities.

Several case facts like the actual number of assailants were still not clear, since the three girls were in shock and could not narrate the exact sequence of events, said NS Bundela, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest).

“The victim has so far told us about just one man. Counsellors are speaking to her to know the complete detail. Her medical examinations confirmed sexual assault,” said Bundela.

Sitting in the Ashok Vihar police station, still in her blue coloured school dress, one of the other two girls, Meera, (name changed) found it hard to narrate her trauma. “When we entered the toilet two people suddenly jumped on us,” she said, as the police prepared to record her version.

Meera and the other girl managed to escape and later informed school authorities, who found Sudha in a semi-conscious state inside the toilet, with her school uniform soaked in blood. The assailants had fled by then, said police. Sudha is undergoing treatment at Babu Jagjiwan Ram hospital.

Another officer said that they were verifying what exactly transpired in the school after the incident. The victim’s family, however, accused school headmistress Neelam Brij of trying to hide the matter. “Even after the incident, the headmistress ordered her teachers and children not to tell anyone about the incident. Meera, however, came home and told her grandmother what she saw,” said Sudha’s mother. Sudha’s father is a factory worker.

When asked, Brij didn’t comment on the allegations. Police also didn’t comment, saying they were looking into the incident.
