The incident took place on Tuesday at Trinity Tower in DLF City. While the girl, Vaanya Chadha, is battling for life at the ICU of Medanta hospital, the guard is on the run.

The DLF security management and the security agency on whose payrolls the guard was employed have shirked responsibility, claiming Kumar was hired by the victim’s family “for personal security”.

Refuting these claims, Himanshu Chawla — the girl’s paternal uncle — said the guard was deputed at Trinity Tower on the request of a six-member empowered committee of residents.

BL Chadha, the grandfather of Vaanya, is also a member of the committee.

“The condominium’s security is the responsibility of DLF. It has been outsourced to LE Group. It is evident from the records available with the police and the society that Kumar was on the payrolls of LE Group. He absconded with the help of other guards deployed at the gate,” said Chawla.

Bejon Rai, another member of the empowered committee, said, “Our committee had recommended deployment of an armed guard for three towers following threat perception.”

He added the guard was deputed in April by LE Group for towers A, B and C as these towers could be easily scaled by robbers.

The Chadha family lived on the ground floor apartment of Tower B.

However, LE Group’s security in-charge (DLF Phase 5) Satish Singh claimed that Chadhas used to pay the guard on their own.

“The security gunman in question was not hired by DLF, but was in fact employed by Gagan Chadha as his personal security officer. Hence, had no relation to DLF management/security set-up,” the DLF said in a written statement.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has alleged that it was Kumar who fired at Vaanya since the girl could not have lifted a heavy, double barrel gun.
