HC justice slams former judges
A judge of the Delhi High Court on Friday slammed the practice of former judges criticising the judiciary and calling it corrupt.
A judge of the Delhi High Court on Friday slammed the practice of former judges criticising the judiciary and calling it corrupt.
Justice Rekha Sharma, who has been a judge in the court since 22 years, said at her farewell ceremony: “With them (former judges), it seems to have become a pastime to taint the judiciary as corrupt requiring surgical treatment”.
“Judges know, they are here for a cause and must be ready to bear the cross but the hysteria and hype being created against the judiciary may spell grave jeopardy to life-saving justice”, the 62-year-old judge said at the ceremony attended by chief justice Dipak Misra and 42 other judges of the court.
She also said that the presence of large number of women judges now proves that “they are not only home servers, they can also manage artfully and efficiently the judicial system”
Environment-friendly
Justice Sharma is known for her bold stand on environmental issues. In November 2008, in a judgment on a petition which challenged construction of the CWG village on the Yamuna river bed, she differed with her brother judge and accused all government agencies of rampant urbanisation at the cost of environment.
At her farewell, chief justice Misra and Delhi High Court Bar Association President AS Chandiok praised her judgments on environmental issues.
