Hoax call delays Delhi-bound Shatabdi

The Delhi-bound Shatabdi express was abruptly halted at Narela in outer Delhi following a phone call claiming that one if its bogies had been rigged with explosives on Friday morning, police said.

The Delhi-bound Shatabdi express was abruptly halted at Narela in outer Delhi following a phone call claiming that one if its bogies had been rigged with explosives on Friday morning, police said. The incident reportedly occurred minutes after the train, with close to a thousand passengers, had departed from Amritsar at 7:45 am. The GRP were informed about the explosives in time but the train could be halted at the Narela railway station around 8:15 am.

The 14-bogey train was combed for potential security hazards immediately after it pulled into the Narela Railway Station.

“A team of officers from the local police station was also dispatched to assist the GRP officers as they searched the train,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.

Police said the train was allowed to continue on its course towards the New Delhi Railway Station after the search operation that reportedly lasted for close to two hours.

GRP officers said the caller has been identified.
