Documents detailing the alleged blast attempt, intelligence sources told HT, have been recovered from the laptop of 27-year-old Ajaz Sheikh who was arrested by the special cell of Delhi Police on Friday night.

“We have retrieved several Microsoft Word files which detail the targets, the timings, the materials to be used and other instructions for operatives,” said an intelligence official. “It seems that copies of these were to be handed over — with other provisions — to IM operatives before the said bid,” the officer added.

Sources in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) said they were in the process of verifying whether the ‘well-documented’ plan was to unfold at north Delhi’s Chandni Chowk market pertaining to which an IB advisory had been issued in June this year.

Intelligence sources said Sheikh’s interrogators were initially baffled at the precise
details related to the market blast plan and now believe that the documentation recovered from Sheikh’s laptop was merely the tip of the iceberg when it came to the outfit’s finely chalked-out plans.

Meanwhile, the special cell, quoting Sheikh’s interrogation, claimed that he had received explosives used to perpetrate the German Bakery blast in Pune a day before the incident.

Ajaz had also, allegedly, handed over `1 lakh to Yasin Bhatkal and `2 lakh to Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu prior to the blasts.

“He had procured the money through hawala. A day before the blasts, he was told to collect a mobile phone from Yasin Bhatkal by his brother-in-law Mohsin via a phone call,” said a police officer.

“After he collected the phone, he was told to go and wait at the Pune railway station where he received a call on the same phone and collected the explosives for the blasts,” the officer added.
