A four-storey building collapsed in west Delhi's Vishnu Garden area on Saturday night around 9pm, killing 4 and injuring more than 9 after 13 people were rescued, including 4 children, from under the rubble. Rescue operations are underway while an investigation has also be initiated.
A four-storey building collapsed in west Delhi's Vishnu Garden area on Saturday around 9pm, killing four people and injuring more than nine. Thirteen people were rescued, including 4 children, from under the rubble.
"We have pulled out a total of 13 people so far of which four have been confirmed dead, nine others are undergoing treatment," said a police official. Many are still feared to be trapped under the debris, including a minor girl. Here's a photo essay on the tragedy and its aftermath.
Rescue operations are still on with two National Disaster Response Force teams (NDRF), police officials and district administration officials lending a helping hand. AAP MLA from Tilak Nagar, Jarnail Singh, and BJP MP Parvesh Verma visited the site.
Although no construction was underway, locals pinned the blamed on Delhi Jal Board, claiming that the water board were excavating the site for laying down sewer lines which allegedly led to the collapse.
Singh added that the area had been under water for almost four days. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the collapse. Here's a photo essay on the collapse and its aftermath.
