India and Brunei on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding in the fields of culture, arts and sports.
Minister of Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni signed the MoU from the Indian side and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade-II Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng signed on behalf of Brunei.
India's cultural interactions with Brunei have remained somewhat limited in the past as there was no agreement or MoU between the two countries, Soni told reporters after signing the document.
It is hoped that with the signing of the MoU the bilateral cultural relations will get an impetus and there will be many cultural exchanges between the two countries, she said.
The MoU includes agreements on cultural exchanges between the two countries in the fields of cultural and sports institutions and constitution of a Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) for carrying out the provisions of the MoU.
The committee would meet alternately in Brunei and India. The MoU will be valid for a period of five years from the date of its signing and has a provision of automatic renewals.
