CPM politburo member Brinda Karat dispatched a letter to the Prime asking for a clarification.

She attached a copy of an answer to a question she had raised in Rajya Sabha in February on the launching by ISRO” and whether India had taken “preventive steps to ensure the satellite would not be used for intelligence activities against India and its friendly countries?”

Minister of State in the PM's Office, Prithviraj Chavan, had said: “The contract ensures the customer satellite is for peaceful purposes.”Karat also attached copies of articles published in an English daily in Israel, Haaretz, which confirmed the Left party's apprehensions.
