The Delhi police have initiated a departmental enquiry (DE) against constable Arvind Dabas, who along with three associates have so far been arrested by the special cell for making an illegal attempt to access call detail records of senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley.
Sources said the move to order the departmental enquiry against Dabas was taken after the preliminary investigation of the special cell confirmed that he was misusing his position for nefarious purposes.
Investigators also found that Dabas was allegedly providing call detail records of some well-known businessmen to private detectives for monetary gain.
Interrogation of Dabas led to the arrest of three private detectives — Anurag Singh, Neeraj Kumar and Nitin — who were paying Dabas handsomely for his help. Police are now looking for other people who, according to them, were also involved in the 'conspiracy'.
Meanwhile, the scrutiny of Dabas's laptop has helped investigators to know that he had illegally procured call detail records of at least fifteen mobile numbers for his personal benefit. Investigators are now trying to locate the ownership of those numbers and the reason for which their call details records were accessed.
