JNU professor cleared in sexual harassment case
A committee probing the alleged sexual harassment of girls by a Jawaharlal Nehru University professor has given a clean chit to him in the absence of any evidence or any witness in the case.
A committee probing the alleged sexual harassment of girls by a Jawaharlal Nehru University professor has given a clean chit to him in the absence of any evidence or any witness in the case.
"There is no evidence to back any of the charges and there are no witnesses in any of the cases against professor C U Rao," the Complaint Screening Committee of the Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) has said.
"The committee feels that there is a lack of sufficient grounds to recommend a full-fledged enquiry," it said.
In September last year, nine girl students had complained that the then chairperson of the special centre for Sanskrit studies, Rao, was subjecting them to "harassment."
The Committee further observed that the "charges are not sustainable as there are no witnesses to substantiate the claims of the complainants."
