Kanda sent to judicial custody till Sept 11 in Geetika case
Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, key accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, was today sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court.
Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda was sent to two weeks' judicial custody by a Delhi court on Tuesday after 10 days in police remand.
The court also granted his request for a separate vehicle and medical supplies.
The key accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, Kanda was remanded in judicial custody till September 11 by additional chief metropolitan magistrate DK Jangala after the Delhi Police said they do not need to interrogate him anymore, as reported by Hindustan Times on Monday.
Kanda was produced before the court after the expiry of three days' police custody which was extended on August 25 after seven days of custodial interrogation by the police. The police had sought more time to recover three phones being used by him.
In her suicide note, 23-year-old Geetika, who had hung herself at her Ashok Vihar residence on August 5, had alleged that Kanda and one of his employees at MDLR airlines, Aruna Chaddha, were harassing her to rejoin the former minister's firm after she had left the job.
Meanwhile, Kanda moved an application for a separate vehicle for transportation from Tihar jail to court saying that he is currently a member of legislative assembly from Sirsa, Haryana, and till recently, was the minister of home affairs of the state and feared being attacked in the jail van.
"In the fact and circumstances, considering security and safety of the accused, his applications are allowed," the court said. The application filed through advocate Somesh Arora said till now Kanda was under police protection but now he has been remanded to judicial custody.
"There is strong possibility of physical attack upon him during the transportation from Tihar jail to court," Arora said.
The court also allowed Kanda's plea that he be allowed to carry his medicines in jail as he has high blood pressure.
The police said they were in touch with Ankita Singh, another key suspect in the case, who was expected to reach the Capital on Friday.
