The Haryana Govt has given in-principle approval to DML plan to widen a nine-km-long sectoral road, connecting the Gurgaon Expressway and Golf Course Road, reports Sanjeev K Ahuja.

The Haryana government has given in-principle approval to DLF Metro Limited's (DML) plan to widen a nine-km-long sectoral road, connecting the Gurgaon Expressway and Golf Course Road, and provide crossover facilities for pedestrians and traffic.

Besides upgrading the road from the existing four lanes to eight lanes, DML will construct two or three flyovers and five underpasses on this stretch for crossover movement of pedestrians and vehicles, a senior Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) official said. The Haryana Government and DML would share the cost equally, they said.

This is the same road on which DML proposes to construct an elevated Light Rail Transit System (LRTS). The rail system will come up on a 3.5-km-stretch connecting the Mall of India on the Expressway and Sikanderpur Metro station on MG Road. The Rs 400-crore DLF LRTS project with five stations is expected to come up by March 2010. However, the Haryana government is still to accord formal approval to the project.

According to the HUDA official, since DML had offered to construct the rail system, the task of designing and widening the road as well as providing crossover facilities was given to it. "We have asked the DML to do a feasibility study on the 9 km stretch. DML has also been asked to get a detailed project report made from an expert agency and submit it at the earliest," the official said.

DML executive director C.B.K. Rao confirmed that the Haryana government had awarded the in-principle approval to DML for designing the road project on an equal cost-sharing basis. "We have already outsourced the work of preparing the project report to a private consultancy firm. The report will be ready by the first week of July. Tentatively, we have conceptualized the project. The existing 22-metre-wide road will be widened to 28 metres. Service lanes will be built on each side," Rao said.

Rao said though the detailed project report was still to be finalised, initial discussions with the Haryana government pointed at two flyovers and five underpasses between Expressway and Genpact Crossing at Golf Course Road.

The road starts from Gateway Tower at Gurgaon Expressway, meanders through DLF Cybercity, DLF Phase III, connects MG Road at Sikanderpur crossing and then takes the Golf Course road from the Hotel Bristol roundabout.
