Dev was reportedly annoyed with Dharamveer as he had objected to Dev’s relationship with his wife. Dharmveer’s wife worked as a domestic help at Dev’s rented flat, the police said.

Dev, who hails from Bokaro in Jharkhand, came to Delhi a year ago, the police said. He had been employed as a data operator with a private firm. He shared the flat with three other friends, who are students.

Police found several liquor bottles from the terrace where Dev reportedly committed the murder. The incident was reported around 9.30 pm on Monday. Dev had invited Dharmaveer for the binge session.

“The duo consumed liquor together and when Dharamveer was drunk, Dev attacked him with a meat chopper that he had sneaked in as part of a pre planned conspiracy. He severed Dharamveer’s head from the torso,” said NS Bundela, DCP (northwest).

On hearing Dharamveer’s cries, Dev’s flatmates Himesh, Prakash and Ravi Kant rushed to the terrace from their third-floor flat. They found Dev’s clothes soaked in blood and rushed to the police station, the police said.

“The three friends came to the police station and informed us about the crime. We rushed a team and found that Dev had dragged the body to the kitchen of the flat and was trying to dispose of it,” said the officer. The police said that the victim had borrowed money from Dev and this might have also triggered the murder.

The police said Dev has confessed to the murder.

Neighbours told the police Dev and his friends used to throw liquor parties regularly. The people of the area were fed up with them some of them had also given written complaints to the local police station but no action was taken.
