A 30-year-old rickshaw puller was run over by an approaching train at the Anand Vihar Railway Station in east Delhi after he allegedly tripped and fell of the platform, police said on Monday.
The man was on his way to his ancestral home at Begu Sarai in Bihar to celebrate Holi with his family when the incident happened.
Police said Amarjeet, a resident of the Shamshan Ghat slum cluster in east Delhi's Geeta Colony, lost his balance and fell off a packed boarding platform at seven a.m. when the Seemanchal Express arrived at the station.
"There was a lot of rush to board the train, which had halted at platform number one at the Anand Vihar Railway Station. Amarjeet lost his balance in a bid to find his way to the general compartment and fell," said a senior police officer.
He was rushed to an adjacent government hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors, police said.
