The body of a three-year-old who had mysteriously gone missing from his south Delhi residence on Thursday afternoon was found in a septic tank, police said.
Identified as Sunny, a resident of Fatehpur Beri's Chandanhula area, the toddler had disappeared around noon on Thursday.
Fearing the worst, his unsuspecting parents approached the local police with a kidnapping complaint hours later.
"His father, Subhash, approached the local police station and complained that Sunny was last seen playing outside his rented accommodation," said an officer.
"Since he was still learning how to walk properly, his harried father argued that there could be no other logical reason for his son's disappearance except abduction."
According to the police, two teams were constituted and rushed to the spot to search for Sunny. One of them spotted an open septic tank near the entrance and expressed suspicion.
Inquiry revealed that the concrete lid of the septic tank had recently been removed. When some police personnel peeked inside, they saw Sunny's body floating.
"The child's body was immediately fished out and rushed to Safdurjung Hospital where doctors declared him dead. We registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the owner of the property, later identified as Kaliram. He was later arrested," the officer added.
