The features of monsoon have been established over the region and the Weather Office is expecting that residents will experience the first showers within 48-72 hours.
"The monsoon is knocking at the doors of the capital and it will hit the city within 72 hours. It can be tomorrow or day after also," MeT Director B P Yadav told PTI.
The normal date of onset of monsoon in Delhi is June 29.
In a precursor to the rainy season, pre-monsoon showers lashed several parts of the city this afternoon, a day after the MeT Department indicated that the south-west monsoon was advancing across the country in much more smooth and rapid manner as compared to last year.
The capital received 4.2 mm of showers during the day.
Even as the maximum temperature recorded at 33 degrees Celsius, the higher humidity levels proved to be a source of discomfort.
The relative humidity touched a high of 91 per cent compared to Thursday's 83 per cent while the minimum remained at 59 per cent.
The capital, which is experiencing one of the coolest summers in the recent times, has received record summer showers in May, which is known for heatwave conditions.
The annual rainfall system had set in over south Andaman Sea on May 10, five days earlier than the normal onset and reached Kerala on schedule on May 31.
