The South Corporation also decided to crack down on shops selling cut fruits and fruit juice in the open apart from acting against other agencies digging roads without permission from the civic body in South Delhi.

"As a formality, the ban on sale of cut fruits and sugar cane juice was imposed for six months with effect from April 1. But this ban remains on paper only. Sugar cane juice machines can be seen in every market and locality with the connivance of health inspectors. Raids to remove hawkers selling cut fruits are carried out, but they reappear the next day," said leader of opposition Farhad Suri.

South Corporation mayor Savita Gupta assured the House that strict action would be taken against the violators.
