Mother Neelam overjoyed, seeks strong sentence
Neelam Katara, the mother of Nitish Katara, said she managed a few anxious hours of sleep the night before the judgment day.
Neelam Katara, the mother of Nitish Katara, said she managed a few anxious hours of sleep the night before the judgment day. The mother who has been fighting for her son for the last six years was calm and composed when the judge pronounced the single line verdict.
The joy was visible on her face when she came out of the courtroom. She later confessed that she had imagined this moment but the reality was still to sink in completely. "For the last six years, I have been visualising this moment but today, I am still not able to fathom the fact that we have finally got justice. The first thing I did when the judge pronounced the verdict was to thank god who has kept me going all these years," she said.
Neelam Katara had single-handedly taken on a family with enormous political clout, went from pillar to post and knocked on every door to for justice for her dead son.
She recounted how Nitish often told her that she knew nothing about the world. "He always said you do not know how people can be. Today, he must be laughing somewhere and saying mummy you have learnt how the world works," she said.
She now wants that the punishment given to them should befit the crime and no one should again have the courage to do such a heinous thing again. "The punishment should act as a deterrent. It should be such that no one ever has the guts to snatch a son away from his mother," she said.
She said after the judgment she goes back content and filled with memories of her son.
