Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee alleged in the Lok Sabha on Monday that her phones were being tapped by the police and other government agencies.Claiming that both mobile phones as well as landlines of several other MPs and mediapersons were being tapped , she asked the government to conduct an enquiry into the matter.
“We can’t talk a single line on the phone,” she complained during Question Hour, saying she had been using the mobile phone given to her by Parliament and was ready to lay it on the table of the House is she was unable to use it without being tapped.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee intervened to ask Communications Minister A Raja whether the government was tapping her phones, to which his terse reply was “ not at all”.Chatterjee, nevertheless, asked her to file a complaint with his office saying that it was a serious matter. “I will compel the government to inquire into the matter,” he assured her.
