A senior citizen was clobbered to death by his neighbours when he intervened in a brawl involving his son in Jamia Nagar area of south Delhi on Tuesday.
Police said Abdullah Khaleel (60), a maulvi (muslim priest) by profession, was attacked by his neighbours, Umar and his wife Likhat Parween, when he intervened in their fight with his son. Khaleel used toteach “Arabic” at a nearby madrasa.
The brawl started when Umar’s goat wandered into Khaleel’s house. Police said the goat started bleating and hearing this Umar and his wife went to their neighbour’s house and picked up a fight. They reportedly accused Khaleel’s son Abdul Shakeel of trying to electroculate the goat. The verbal duel spinned out of control and Umar attacked Khaleel with an iron rod. Khaleel died on the spot.
Khaleel was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, but was dead by then. Police said a call was made to the police control room (PCR). "The couple was arrested and a case of murder has been registered against,” said a senior police officer.
