The duo were running a fake certificate-cum-marksheet scam from Indraprastha International Polytechnic located in west Delhi's Vikaspuri, said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime).

"We had received information that under the cover of this institute, Sharma, who posed as its director, used to prepare fake

certificates and marksheets for different courses and different institutions," said additional CP Yadav.

A decoy customer was sent to procure one of these certificates and a raid was conducted as soon as a deal to pay Rs.5000 for a 10+2 certificate with Rs.1000 being paid as advance money was struck.

Five certificates, which Sharma had showed to the decoy customer as samples, were recovered from him. During interrogation, Sharma revealed that he got these made through one Naresh Kumar of Maha Laxmi College located in Uttam Nagar's Om Vihar. Kumar was also nabbed.

"During investigation, it was revealed Kumar ran a coaching institute in the name of Maha Laxmi College at Om Vihar since 2009. In January 2010, he came in contact with one Yogesh who promised him certificates of classes 10 and 12 for R7000 each, and lured him to the trade," said Yadav.

Naresh himself learnt to prepare fake certificates. A 10+2 certificate would cost Rs.7000, a B.A degree was available for Rs.15,000 to Rs.20,000 while a Law degree was provided for Rs.1.25 lakh.
