"There may have been odd instances in the past but by and large the entire Sino-Indian Himalayan frontier has been quiet and tranquil," Antony said, referring to the war the two nations fought in 1962 and the situation on Friday.

"But there are no chances of any confrontation now," the minister told reporters here on the margins of a conference with the top brass of the country's ordnance factories.

The defence minister was asked to respond to claims by an MP from Arunachal Pradesh that China was occupying large expanse of Indian land in his state, which was causing some disquiet in the region.

"We are striving to find an amicable and lasting answer and all out efforts are aimed towards this," Antony said, adding that the official-level talks, especially between the special representatives of the two sides, was progressing well.
