No need to de-register for receiving SMSes from School: TRAI
The Telecom Regulator TRAI on Tuesday clarified that parents will not have to de-register from National Customer Preference Register (NCPR) to get SMSes from educational institutes where their children are studying.
The Telecom Regulator TRAI on Tuesday clarified that parents will not have to de-register from National Customer Preference Register (NCPR) to get SMSes from educational institutes where their children are studying.
The clarification has come after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) noticed that parents of students of many schools were in panic that they would miss critical messages from school if registered on National Customer Preference Register (NCPR).
"As such, large number of parents are de-registering from NCPR even if it means exposure to Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC) and SMSes," said a statement issued by TRAI.
TRAI has made provisions in "The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010" to facilitate various categories to send the transactional messages.
"Educational institutes are also included in these categories to send transactional SMSes to parents or guardians of their students," the statement said.
This means all messages from registered education institutes to their parents or guardians will be sent even if such parents are registered with NCPR.
These messages will not be restricted in the prescribed time window of 9 AM to 9 PM and can be sent at any time.
