An electronic gaming event in the city plans to bring together serious fans of football.

India isn’t a country closely associated with hardcore gaming. We have a very young generation that plays games as a pastime but hardcore gamers in India continue to be a niche set. However, Sikander Kamal and Kartik Iyer belong to the latter category. The duo, along with gaming enthusiast Kshitij Dewani, is organising an electronic gaming tournament in the city this Sunday. The gamers will compete with each other in an electronic football game, popularly known as FIFA.

Why FIFA? “This game is doing really well, not only in India but all over the world. It’s a game for everyone. The screen is not split when you play with a friend (each player getting only half of the screen) and it’s very competitive. My friend and I were just playing, when we decided we should go for it.”

Though the entry fee is R500, not everyone can show up and take part. Interested gamers, even amateurs, will have to register, and all the info can be found on the Facebook page of the event. Those who miss out on the limited number of slots can go and support other participants, and also catch the after-party.
