Are you aware of the importance of World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb as a precursor of the world famous Taj Mahal? Or for that matter, do you know, Char Bagh (square pattern gardens with fountains and water channels) is a significant feature of the site?
Well, next time you go to the Humayun’s Tomb, you can arm yourself with all this information and much more before exploring the actual premises.
Jawahar Sircar, secretary, Union Ministry of Culture, inaugurated the site exhibition on Monday, first for an Archeological Survey of India (ASI) protected monument in Delhi. “Similar efforts should be made at other monuments,” Sircar said.
The senior official also launched a project website (www.nizamuddinrenewal.org).
The on-site exhibition comprises graphic panels having photographs by eminent photographers Ram Rahman and Amit Pascricha, sketches by Himanshi Das and the exhibit designed by Archana Saad Akhtar and curated by historian Narayani Gupta. The exhibition has been set up in the restored cells of the west gate (the second gate inside the premises) of the monument.
The Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), in partnership with ASI, has been carrying out conservation work at the monument.
Ratish Nanada from AKTC said, “A lot of visitors come to Humayun’s Tomb without any guide. This exhibition in a graphic manner will significantly improve their understanding about the World Heritage Site.”
A number of school children and foreigners are regular visitors to the protected site.
