Ravi Kant Sharma, a 1976-batch IPS officer, had a great career till the time he came under suspicion in case. According to a note prepared by Delhi Police on him, Sharma served as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Prime Minister and was selected on a worldwide basis by Interpol to work on its rolls.
Sharma was suspended in August 2002 when he was on the run. Sharma, who did his Bachelors in Journalism, did his Masters in Economics from Punjab University. He also did an Med and Phd in Education.
From 1980 to December 1989, Sharma served in various districts of Haryana. He was the Superintendent of Police in Sonepat, Rohtak, Sirsa, Faridabad and Gurgaon. He also served as SP Railways, Haryana and additional DIG, CID.
From January 1990 to June 1992 he served with the Central Bureau of Investigation. He headed the narcotics counterpoint and anti-corruption branches. He represented India at the Interpol conference at Lyons, France on drugs. Also underwent a course organised by the United Nations in Canada on drugs.
From 1992 to 1995, Sharma served at the Interpol headquarters in France. He was selected on a worldwide basis by Interpol to work on its rolls. Interpol paid his salary and allowance. Represented Interpol in world conference in Asia, Africa and in Lyons on matters related to drugs. Also represented India's interests on matters like anti-terrorism, drugs, economic offences, frauds.
Also edited the Interpol quarterly journal "Quest" for worldwide circulation.
Returned to his home cadre and served as DIG Rohtak and Ambala range from 1995 to 1997. He was the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Prime Minister from July 1997 to March 1998. He was Director (vigilance), Air India, Mumbai from April 1998 to June 2000.
