One more depressed student kills self in Delhi

A 14-year-old student has committed suicide at his Vasant Vihar home in southwest Delhi on Wednesday, reports Vijaita Singh.

The boy was reportedly depressed because he failed to clear his Class VI examinations, said a police officer.

He left behind a suicide note where he mentioned that he was ending his life and no one was should be blamed for it.

The victim, Sirel Lawrence, lived with his parents. His father is a gardener and mother works as a domestic help.

Lawrence hanged himself with his mother’s saree around 2 pm when no was present in the house. He was a Class VI student of Sarvodaya School in Green Park and had recently got his results.

“His parents informed us that Lawrence had failed in three subjects and hence was depressed. His parents had even counselled him and told him not to worry about the results,” said a senior police officer.

Lawrence left behind a four-line suicide note that read, “I am sorry and no one is to be blamed for my death.” The body has been sent for postmortem and police are investigating the case, the officer said.

The boy’s mother saw the body hanging when she returned from work. She raised an alarm and called the police.

In separate incidents, three women also committed suicide in the Capital on Wednesday.

A 17-year-old girl jumped to death in the Kondli Canal in New Ashok Nagar after she had a fight with her sister. The police are yet to recover the body.

In the second incident, a 22-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself in Farsh Bazaar.

The police said the deceased, Pooja, was depressed, allegedly because of dowry harassment. Pooja and Rajiv Kumar had married three years ago.

After her suicide, an SDM enquiry found her in-laws guilty of dowry harassment and a case had been registered against them.

In the third incident, a 32-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Krishna Nagar.
