Polygraph tests offer little help to CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday said they have made five key players in the Noida double murder case take a lie detector test but were still unsure of a few findings.
Dr Rajesh Talwar’s test, for one, did not prove to be of much help, said CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar. “His first test remained inconclusive. We will make him take the test again on Friday.”
More than a month and two arrests later, however, the agency still did not shed light on what led to the murders of Aarushi, daughter of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, and Hemraj, their domestic help, on the intervening night of May 15 and May 16.
Interrogators said they were questioning people at two levels. First, employees of all the key players were under the scanner. Doctors at AIIMS on Thursday conducted psychological profiling of the Durani’s servant Rajkumar. The Duranis are family friends of the Talwars.
Vijay Mandal, the help one of Talwars’ neighbours, was Thursday put through a narco-analysis test. The Talwars’ compounder Krishna, who is in jail, has already taken this exercise earlier.
At another level, the CBI was questioning the Talwars and the Duranis. Nupur Talwar has been put through a lie detector test. The Durani couple was called to the CBI headquarters on Wednesday evening for questioning, said an officer. “It is part of investigation,” said Kumar.
CBI also confirmed that Krishna was indeed taken to a bank where the transactions in his account were checked. Rajesh Talwar’s bank statement of the last few months was also scanned by the CBI.
