Each of the colony's 180 flats has been allotted space for two cars. Yet almost 110 additional cars are parked outside the gates and the rear of the colony. While a fee of R250 per month has to be paid for the first car, R750 per month is levied on the second car. A third car has to be parked outside the colony.

Residents have also suggested a cap on the maximum number of cars a family can own. "The number of cars per family must be restricted to avoid a parking mess," said Rajiv Ojha, a resident of Press Enclave.

And if the Delhi Police derecognise the visitors' parking stretch along the Press Enclave road, residents said a possible solution lies in borrowing space from the nearby malls.

"We have approached the traffic police several times for alternative parking. Cars have been stolen from outside the gate," said KR Chaddha, ex-president, Press Enclave Resident Welfare Association. Residents of the colony have also suggested razing the colony in phases, so that it can be expanded vertically. This will leave more space for parking. Shaswati Das
