The south Delhi resident was duped of her jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh by two men who posed as police officers at a public park. Sharma, wife of a property dealer, was on her morning walk at Ishwar Nagar Park under south Delhi's New Friends Colony (NFC) police station. She lives in a DDA flat in Sarai Jellena area.

Recounting the incident, she told Hindustan Times that she was taking a walk in the park when a young man, claiming to be a policeman, approached her and asked her to meet his 'senior' waiting at the park's entry-exit gate.

"Initially, I ignored him and continued walking in the park. After completing one round when I was nearing the gate, the same youth along with a fat man, wearing a police uniform, stopped me again. They said they were policemen and told me not to walk alone in the park. They said a woman was robbed and stabbed by unidentified men in the nearby Ashoka Park," she said.

She said around the same time a man wearing a gold chain and gold rings happened to pass by on his motorcycle. The duo stopped him and slapped him and scolded him for wearing so much gold.

"They told him to keep his jewellery in the bag he was carrying and also advised me to take off my jewellery and wrap it in a newspaper they gave me. I got scared and started wrapping my jewellery in the newspaper when one of them took it from my hand saying he would fold it properly," said Sharma adding that the person then gave back the newspaper to her.

But to her horror, a few minutes later, she unwrapped the newspaper to find that instead of her jewellery the man had put pebbles in it.

This happened after the two men left on the same motorcycle with the man who was slapped in front of her for wearing a lot of gold.

Police have registered a case in this regard at the New Friends Colony police station.
