Sarabjit's sister offers thanksgiving prayer
Dalbir Kaur, sister of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh on death row in Pakistan, find some relief as his execution is deferred by 30 days.
After days of struggle to save her brother's life, Dalbir Kaur, sister of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh on death row in Pakistan, on Wednesday found some relief as his execution was deferred by 30 days.
"I am very happy today. My prayers have been answered. When I heard the news, I went straight to Sisganj Gurudwara to offer prayers," Kaur told PTI.
Kaur has been in the capital for some days now, meeting political leaders to garner support for her brother who has been served a death warrant and was earlier to be hanged on April one.
"I am thankful to Indians and all those who prayed for my brother. I am specially thankful to media, who joined my struggle to save my brother's life," she said.
"I have got the happiness for which I was roaming here and there since the last few days," Kaur said.
She said she would apply for Pakistani visa along with Sarabjit's two daughters.
"Now my desire is to meet my brother and break bread with him after a gap of 18 years," she said, adding she was hopeful that within a month she would be able to go to Pakistan and bring her brother back to India.
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday deferred by 30 days Sarabjit's hanging after the Indian Government made a formal appeal for clemency.
