“Hours before her death, she said she came to Delhi because she wanted a better life for her son. She said though they were uneducated, they wanted good education for their son. Soon after her husband met with the accident at Nizamuddin on Sunday, some miscreants ran away with her belongings," said Naveen, medical social service officer at the trauma centre.

Soon after the robbery, Dalia tried to communicate with the police, who could not comprehend what she was saying and instead gave her some cash and bought her baby food.

On Tuesday, around 15 people turned up at the trauma centre to adopt the couple's one-and-a-half-month-old baby. The hospital staff named him "Goltu". But the kid's relatives plan to take him to their village in Bengal. "We will raise Goltu on our own. I am taking him along to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. His grandparents are there to take care of him," said Matloob Hussain, brother of Dalia's husband Aqueed Ali.

Aqueed and Dalia were buried at Nizamuddin on Tuesday evening. Aqueed's brother will leave for Bengal on Wednesday.

Aqueed had come to Delhi along with Dalia in search of a better job. Soon after their arrival, Ali was crushed by a Blueline near Hazrat Nizamuddin. Unable to bear the pain, his wife hanged herself to death in the toilet of the trauma centre.
