Ashwani is a resident of Jagatpuri in east Delhi and he lives in the same building as his elder brother Braj Mohan Sharma's family. The incident took place on Sunday night when Ashwani, who runs a rubber stamp shop Hasanpur bus depot, objected to the excessive barking of his brother's pet dog around 9:40pm.

A senior police officer said the matter came to light after the victim's wife Ritu made a PCR call. A police team went to the house but Ashwani had already been taken to Hedgewar Hospital by the time they reached. His and his wife's statements were recorded at the hospital.

Ashwani, in his statement to the police, said, "On Sunday around 7.30pm, I returned home from my shop. Around 9.40pm, my brother's pet dog started barking randomly due to which I was getting disturbed as I was trying to sleep."

A senior police officer said, "Some time later Ashwani came down from his third floor house and told his nephew Dheeraj to either to make the dog stop barking or drop him back to the place from where he had got it. This made Dheeraj angry and he verbally abused Ashwani. When he protested, Dheeraj pushed him on the ground. Meanwhile, Dheeraj's father arrived and they both attacked Ashwani."

A case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against Ashwani's brother Braj Mohan and nephew Dheeraj, 23, at the Jagatpuri police station.

Police said the accused are absconding after the incident and efforts are on to nab them.
